Always Faithful, Always Resilient: 40 Years of Honoring Marine Corps Kids

This April, the Marine Corps honors the 40th anniversary of the Month of the Military Child—a legacy celebrating the 1.6 million children who serve alongside their parents.

From frequent moves to long deployments, Marine Corps children face unique challenges with remarkable strength and resilience. To support them, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) offers a network of resources designed to help them thrive. Programs such as Child and Youth Programs, School Liaisons, youth sponsorship initiatives, and access to mental health resources reinforce a shared commitment to ensuring military children feel supported, valued, and connected—no matter where duty takes their families.

This 40th anniversary offers an opportunity not only to celebrate military children, but also to reflect on the progress made in supporting their well-being. Over the years, installations, schools, and communities have expanded resources designed to help military-connected youth thrive.

Show Your Support

Throughout April, we invite the entire Marine Corps community to show their appreciation. Join in on your installation’s events and wear purple—the color representing all military branches—on “Purple Up!” Day. It’s a simple way to send a powerful message to our military kids: “We see you, and we thank you.”

As we mark this 40th anniversary, we don't just celebrate a tradition—we honor the vital role our children play in the readiness and strength of our Corps.
