Operation Ball Gown: A Magical Journey to the Marine Corps Ball

25 September, 2024

Held at Four Winds on MCRD Parris Island, this year’s Operation Ball Gown was a night to remember. Active-Duty Service Members and Active Duty Spouses from MCRD Parris Island and MCAS Beaufort arrived with great anticipation, eager to find the perfect gown for the Marine Corps Ball. Since its inception in 2010, this beloved event has continued to grow each year, offering attendees the opportunity to select one formal gown and up to two accessories—jewelry, handbags, or even a cocktail dress—all free of charge.

The event, organized by Dee Simpson and her awesome team, the Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB) staff, was a huge success. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged to ensure a special experience for the attendees. A photo booth, complete with a pink and turquoise balloon arch, provided the perfect backdrop for capturing the moment when each woman found the dress to take her to the ball.

In addition to the fun of shopping for ball gowns, guests enjoyed light refreshments in a cozy lounge area while waiting their turn. Volunteers were on hand in makeshift dressing rooms, helping participants zip up dresses and providing encouragement. The atmosphere was full of excitement and support, with attendees cheering each other on throughout the evening.

Throughout the night, attendees were treated to gift bag drawings, with prizes including perfume and cosmetics. While there may not have been fairy godmothers, the magic was alive thanks to Disney Ambassadors, who added a touch of "pixie dust" to the event. Representatives from Palm Beach Tan were also present, offering tips on how to achieve that perfect glow for the big night.

Operation Ball Gown wouldn't be possible without the help of the many volunteers who generously gave of their time, as well as the individuals who donated gowns. Special thanks go to the event sponsors—Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort and Palm Beach Tan—whose support helped make the evening a success.

A shout-out is also due to the MCCS programs, including Business Operations, Human Resources, and Behavioral Health, for their participation. Their presence throughout the event, alongside other behind-the-scenes programs, ensured everything ran smoothly.

It was an absolute pleasure to capture this event. The spirit of camaraderie and support was evident as everyone lifted each other up, offering encouragement and sharing in the joy of the night. Operation Ball Gown was not just about finding a dress, but about creating a community where everyone felt celebrated
